For those of you who are working on your resumes or just want to keep it updated, here are a couple of good sites to find samples to help you along. I personally think writing a resume is a pain, but with the right help, it can be much easier. :-)

Keep your resume to one page unless you have extensive related experience.
Organize headings so that the most important points are first.
Invite the readers' attention by using open space, wide margins, and bullets to set off text.
Use good quality white or off-white paper.

Do not make your resume look like a novel-epic, putting there the texts of articles, publications, your reflections on the meaning of life. All this is superfluous. The resume should fit on one page, a maximum of two. Excessive brevity also does not add solidity - a summary with the main fields not filled to the end and the words "I'll tell everything in person" will be immediately sent to the basket.

Another common mistake I see people make is they write bullet points that just say what they did, without the impact or result.

All of your bullet should follow a format similar to:

- [action verb] [what you did] [the result of your actions, quantified wherever possible (i.e. increased company revenue by X%, reduced costs by $Y, etc.)]
