C is the correct choice here.

Three things happened to the Duke :
1) He was feted opulently
2) Later, he was denounced
3) and was exiled.

Using the Verb > Noun rule for concision - Eliminate A, D. (D also screws the parallelism). B changes the meaning/intent of the sentence by considering denounciation and exile as related. E is just outright awkward.

Hence we are left with C, which uses "being" in an acceptable manner.
