Sally's rectangular pool has a length of (5x - 2) meters & an area of 15x2 - 11x + 2 square meters.

which of the following equations express the width of sally's pool in term of X ?

A) 3x-1
B)5x-2
C)5x+2
D)3x+1
E)None of the above

SOLUTION IN SPOILER

width = area / length

width = (15x2 - 11x + 2) / (5x - 2)

You can factor completely,

width = (5x - 2)(3x - 1) / (5x - 2)
width = 3x - 1

Area = length * width = 15x^2 - 11x + 2 = (5x - 2)(3x - 1)

If (5x - 2) is the length, then (3x - 1) is the width.

The answer is (A).
