First + Second = 720
3First = Second + 160
Substitute the second equation to the first: First + 3First -160 = 720 --> 4F=880 --> F=220

Could someone clarify what "thrice" means? Thank you so much!

KHow

thrice means : 3 times of something.

Solution:

Total =720

let the score of the first be x.

Then the score of the 2nd test = 720 -x.

As per the question:

3 times of the score of the first test = score of the second test + 160.


3x = 720 - x + 160.

4x = 880

x = 220.

The best answer is A.
