CLEARLY B.Patchwork -> singular and hence SURROUNDS is correct and many of WHOM is correct usage

Good question ,
Now i realise A can be correct

In good years, the patchwork of green fields that surround the San Joaquin Valley town bustles with farm workers, many of them in the area just for the season.

B. surrounds the San Joaquin Valley town bustles with farm workers, many of whom are

many of whom in the area just for the season. -> this is incorrect!!!since farmers not in the area ,must be pathwork

Looking forward to getting more explanations
