Hi, this is a really simple one, but can't agree with the answer in the book (ARCO GMAT2007). Thanks

************
Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.
(A) -
(B) Although he is as gifted, if not more gifted, than many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest with his poetry remaining unpublished.
(C) Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and not published his poetry.
(D) Despite his being gifted, if not more gifted than his colleagues, he is extremely modest and will not publish his poetry.
(E) Being as gifted as, or more gifted than, many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.
Explanation:
The second part of the original, however, contains a logical error. The “and” fails to specify the nature of the connection between the person’s modesty and the fact that the poetry is unpublished. (C) correctly supplies the connection.

But is it a grammar error ? is extremely modest and not published his poetry = is not published his poetry (and - parallel)

I would go for A.

C - "He" + "not published his poetry"..."has" is missing.
B - is too wordy "with his poetry remaining unpublished."
D, E - being is almost always incorrect in GMAT

Whats OA ?

KUDOS
I am putting up my way to this question.

(A) Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.

I also remeber a same type of Q from 1000SC.

OK.
Fist eliminate B right away. Usage idiom "as gifted as".
D and E can be eliminated for using "being" , which makes them wordy.

The main take is between A and C.
But look more carefully in A.

Although he is as gifted as, if not more gifted than many of his colleagues, he is extremely modest and his poetry is unpublished.
The underlined portion in commas, generally denote a sentence which is addition to the main sentence. That means if
you remove it you should keep the original meaning of the question.
Do we ? No. Eliminate A.

Hi huntgmat, thanks a lot for helping out, very clear the explanation especially on the POE. One more thing i mentioned before is the grammar point in C that i don't understand:

he...is extremely modest and not published his poetry ->he... is not published his poetry (and - parallel) -> quite weird

any idea to explain? did i miss out something? thanks...

(Please ignore this - not good explanation - its a gmat fatigue syndrome mania )

he (is extremely modest) and (has not published his poetry).

Ellipsed has.

Remeber the option you select in GMATwhich is not what you would say a grammar GEM, but the best in the lot !!!

I agree with AlbertNTN with answer choice C. I don't have a problem with the beginning of the sentence but the last part, "and not published his poetry" is problematic. Probably is the correct choice as the other don't look right ...could be ARCO forgot a word?

I agree with C. I believe the wording must be off at the end.
