The editor assumed that the readers would find the story of private citizen Eliot Spitzer far more interesting and thought provoking over the story of how Newsweek journalist Jonathan Darman got that story.

A) thought provoking over

B) thought provoking rather than

C) thought provoking than

OA: B

I chose B! Can someone explain why 'rather than' is incorrect when compared with 'than' !

I chose B! Can someone explain why 'rather than' is incorrect when compared with 'than' !

CORRECT IDIOMATIC USAGE is :
MORE X...THAN Y
MORE X ...RATHER THAN Y is INCORRECT .

OA should be C IMO

More X than Y as everyone mentioned. I believe you did a small typo while mentioning the OA.

I'm sure B was your choice and you wanted to know what's wrong with "rather than".
