E) !

(A) Seeming to be => modifies what ???
(B) As if => modifies what ???
(C) In that they seemed => "they" is plural, but we need singular (emco) "it"
(D) Although it seemed => changes meaning
(E) Because it seemed to be => right => "it" refers to emco and "because" is appropriate to maintain the meaning

Another E.

"Because" is needed to make the second part of the sentence connect logically.
