A higher interest rate is only one of the factors, albeit an important one, that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.
A keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did
B keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
C keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
D keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like
E keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did

Subject is plural , so a plural verb is required.
->A,C are out.
"as" is required because we are talking action -housing market spiraling
->D,E are out

I'll go with B

A higher interest rate is only one of the factors, albeit an important one, that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.

A keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did

B keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did
Correct

C keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did

D keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like

E keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did

We need a plural verb i.e keep and 'as' instead of 'like'

Have a doubt,

Why is the subject plural?

"factors".. "keep". Go with B as well.. This is an interesting and popular one - has been discussed several times earlier

E keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did

the correct syntax is

one of the + plural noun + that/who + plural verb
that/who are relative pronouns that start restrictive clauses. that is why the verb is also plural.
He is one of the boys that climb trees for fun.
Therefore, AC are wrong.

DE are wrong because we use like to compare nouns, not clauses. Clauses contain verbs that we are comparing.

Agree with BMW. verb ought to be plural. So it cutshort our options to B, D or E and the correct one should be B....

agree with you on the as vs. like, although can the subject be single in this sentence? aren't we talking "one" of many factors.. kind of like when we talk about "each" of something.
