Hi guys,

I came to know about this forum from net and heard a lot about experts and quality of advise from experts on this group.

I took the GMAT and it got...470 Q32 V19.

I studied my butt off putting in 30 hours+ per week for 2.5 months. I knew quant was going to need help since I was never the math type. So probably 90% of the time I studied for math. Big mistake. I definitely needed to spend more time on verbal. GMAT verbal is tough.

I am targeting 700 +( so as to get admission in Top B schools .I know I need alot of help on verbal(to achieve 40+) and quant( to achieve 48+).

Can you please advise which of the following will be the correct approach:

1) Take a break from work and study for 1-1.5 months and write GMAT again. Please advise if 1 or 1.5 month would be sufficient including practice tests.

2) Continue with work and study for next 3 months and then re-take.

Any suggestions for help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should go for option (2). It makes more sense given your target score. The following link gives some information on the typical number of hours you will need to put in to score 700. It's more like a necessary condition, but not sufficient though.

The table below from Hussain15 (one of the users of GMAT Club) gives a matrix of Q and V scores you'll need to score 700. Hope it might be of help.

Akaydee,

Having gone through the ups and downs of the GMAT studying game, I recommend you continue working and studying for the test at night and on weekends. I think that studying for 8 hours a day, if you were to take a month off work, would not be an effective use of your time. Other recommendations:

1) Take a GMAT prep course through Kaplan or another prep firm
2) Study with a friend to keep yourself motivated
3) Set milestones and a schedule for your progress
4) Take the test under timed conditions similar to the actual GMAT

I think the most important thing you could do at this point is to take a Kaplan course. Many courses have a money-back guarantee if you don't improve your score.

I'm sorry to read this my friend. I'll suggest you the option no. 2, continue your office and study side via side..

Engage here on gmatclub discussions, purchase gmatclub tests and if you can register for course (I'll recommend knewton). You can do this, read the experiences of people and design your study plan and try to stick to that plan.

Don't think of R1. Think how you are going to go about getting a better score. It's important to get a getter score in order to improve your chances of getting admitted to the school of your choice.

I agree. There is no difference, in my mind, about applying in round 1 vs. round 2. I wouldn't apply in round 3 however. It is imperative you bring the score up before you consider investing so much time as it will take to write your essays.
