Shipping Clerk: The five specially ordered shipments sent out last week were sent out on Thursday. Last week, all of the shipments that were sent out on Friday consisted entirely of building supplies, and the shipping department then closed for the weekend. Four shipments were sent to Truax Construction last week, only three of which consisted of building supplies.

If the shipping clerk’s statements are true, which of the following must also be true?

A. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was specially ordered.
B. At least one of last week’s specially ordered shipments did not consist of building supplies.
C. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction was not sent out on Thursday of last week.
D. At least one of the shipments that were sent out on Friday of last week was sent to Truax Construction.
E. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was sent out before Friday.

Trusday's shipment => 5 specially order shipements going out for entire week + could be additional shipments
Friday's shipment => All building supplies shipments
Now => Four shipments were sent to Truax Construction last week, only three of which consisted of building supplies.

A.At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was specially ordered. ==>> Need not be true, since 4th shipment received at Traux need not be specially ordered, it could be regular ordered as well
B.At least one of last week’s specially ordered shipments did not consist of building supplies. ==>> Need not be True, since 4th shipment received at Traux need not be specially ordered, it could be regular ordered as well
C.At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction was not sent out on Thursday of last week ==>> Need not be true since on thrusady additional shipments could have gone out alongwith special ordered shipments
D.At least one of the shipments that were sent out on Friday of last week was sent to Truax Construction.==>> need not be trues since 3 building supplies could have gone out on thrusday itself
E.At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was sent out before Friday. ==> HAS to be true

I am getting - E

Confusing one, but should be E.
In this problem, you have to realize that even though 5 special order were shipped on Thursday and all shipment on Friday were building supplies, "last week" includes Monday - Wednesday, which can have any type of shipment. Only E make sense here because if Truax received one shipment that is not building supplies ,then that shipment must be mailed before Friday (all shipments on Friday are building supplies).

E. Due to the reasons mentioned above.

All Friday shipments were building supplies. If Truax ordered 4 shipments last week and only 3 were building supplies, then 1 shipment had to be before Friday.

I think this is a great question. The logic isn't difficult, but the wording is incredibly confusing.

In (E) friday refers to which week ?? not mentioned.
IMO (A) should be correct as only 3 shipments sent to Truax Construction last week consisted of building supplies, therefore the atleast one shipment has to be specially ordered as it contained something other than building supplies (note: the word "entirely" in argument).
why does it say "atleast" ? because, "building supplies" can also be a part of "special order" but the vice-a-versa is not necessarily true.

Aviator,

I answer E.

Aviatior - I'm not sure what you mean by "friday refers to which week?" not mentioned. The passage refers to last week, as does the answer and the "Friday" at the very end of the answer refers to Friday of last week when shipment went out.

I don't believe the answer can be A because we don't know when the 4th, non-building supply shipment was sent to Truax Construction. It could have been sent any day but Friday because it seems Friday was reserved for building supply shipments. This means that nothing but building supplies were sent on Friday. It also does not rule out that other building supply shipments were sent on another day of the week. All of Friday's shipments were Building Supplies does not mean all Building Supply shipments were sent on Friday. (Some A's are B's, but not all B's are A's or All pitbulls are dogs, but not all dogs are pitbulls).

In order for A to be true, we would have to know that the 4th shipment Truax received was received on Thursday, when all specially ordered shipments were sent, but the question stem doesn't say this.
