Althought fruit can no longer grow once it is picked, it continues for some time to respire, taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide, similar to the way human beings breathe.

A) similar to the way human beings breathe
B) similar to human beings who are breathing
C) just like the breathing of human beings
D) A human beings when breathing
E) just as human beings do when they breathe.

What happened to the Just as X so Y idiom in E? I agree that we are comparing actions and as is preferred, how ever, I am not understanding how E is correct.

What is the OA & OE?

I don't remember exactly from where I got this SC...however I remember the answer is E....

E takes care of the "taking in exygen and giving out carbon di oxide" part by adding "do". A does not do that.

I remember seeing "X just as Y" as another idiom somewhere. This explains why E could be the right answer as anyways other choices have comparison issue.
