+1 for C

The above argument is of the form - Someone buys X but not Y for for sake of others. They Sacrificed their own comfort for sake of others.

(A) A person buys an automobile to commute to work even though public transportation is quick and reliable.
- Incorrect. A person buys X to do Y even though they had other options. This doesn't match the above situation

(B) A parent buys a car seat for a young child because it is more colorful and more comfortable for the child than the other car seats on the market, though no safer.
- Incorrect. A parent buys X for Y even though its not safe. This doesn't match the above situation

(C) A couple buys a particular wine even though their favorite wine is less expensive and better tasting because they think it will impress their dinner guests.
- Correct. A couple buys X but not Y to impress others ( Also sacrificing their favorite). This perfectly matches the above situation

(D) A person sets her thermostat at a low temperature during the winter because she is concerned about the environmental damage caused by using fossil fuels to heat her home.
- Incorrect. This option is far far away from the above situation

(E) An acrobat convinces the circus that employs him to purchase an expensive outfit for him so that he can wear it during his act to impress the audience.
- Incorrect. This option is far far away from the above situation

Though such type of questions are rarely seen in the actual exam, but I think this is a part of LSAT probably to accommodate oneself with the analogies and a bit of pre-thinking.
This stem considers: X is preferred over Y though not favourable but is important aesthetically(social image)
Quote:
A) A person buys an automobile to commute to work even though public transportation is quick and reliable. - out of focus

(B) A parent buys a car seat for a young child because it is more colorful and more comfortable for the child than the other car seats on the market, though no safer. - warps the comparison, as the car seat preference is keeping comfortability status in mind

(C) A couple buys a particular wine even though their favorite wine is less expensive and better tasting because they think it will impress their dinner guests.- Bingo!

(D) A person sets her thermostat at a low temperature during the winter because she is concerned about the environmental damage caused by using fossil fuels to heat her home.- out of focus

(E) An acrobat convinces the circus that employs him to purchase an expensive outfit for him so that he can wear it during his act to impress the audience.- Runner up- as this option considers social image and does not consider favouratism
