110% of p = 22

So, p = 20

Thus, The total fare (ex tip) is 20*6 = 120

Hence, correct answer must be (B) $120 _________________ Thanks and Regards Abhishek.... We are given that each of the 6 friends paid 22 dollars total for a cab ride, including a 10% tip.

The total amount paid was 6 x 22 = 132 dollars. We can let the total amount of the trip (excluding the tip) = t and create the following equation:

fare + tip = total

t + 0.10t = 132

1.1t = 132

11t = 1320

t = 120

Hi ziyuenlau,

This question can be solved rather easily by TESTing THE ANSWERS.

We're told that each of 6 friends paid $22 for a cab fare - and that that$22 included a 10% tip. The question asks us for the cost of the cab BEFORE the tip was added.

Since each of the 6 friends paid $22/each, they paid a total of (6)($22) = $132, so we're looking for an answer that becomes$132 when you increase it by 10%...

Let's TEST Answer B: $120$120 + (10% of $120) =$120 + $12 =$132

This is an exact match for what we were told, so this MUST be the answer.
