I was also confused abt the 3 year limit for essays and asked in one of the chat session if i can use an example 3.5 years back. i was told 3 years is a strong suggestion and there shouldnt be any problem with 3.5 years.
submitted for R1 today. feeling very relaxed and all set to enjoy the big indian festival of diwali tomorrow.
i also asked abt number of applicants last year in the chat. i was told 4400 applicants applied last year across 2 rounds of which around 25% were called for an interview for final batch of 400.

I heard something similar from the adcom rep during my visit through the Ambassadors Program. Basically, their acceptance rate worked out to be 11% last year.

Good luck to you all! Congrats for getting through the process. Now the waiting begins....

Here is the available information on website:

"Candidates will be invited to interviews by email, up until the decision deadlines. Decisions will be released early for some candidates who will be denied admission without an interview. Interviews will be conducted at MIT Sloan and in several key regions around the globe. Please indicate on the application the preferred location for your interview; in some cases, we may conduct interviews by telephone. Please note that interviews are conducted on weekdays and during business hours."

Forum seems to be very silent. After submitting the application, it was a great relief. But now the waiting starts. Started the application for the next school.

Read through last year's thread at calling-all-mit-sloan-fall-2011-applicants-98675.html for an idea of when the invites started coming out.

From memory, the invites started flowing in early-mid December for domestic US, and mid December for international - the invites seemed to go out in 'waves' according to interview cities. Folks invited for interview were given access to a website to book slots - as a tip, do this quickly, as the slots fill up and you may end up being forced to use an inconvenient time. Most people seemed to get 2-3 weeks advance notice of the interview.

In previous online chat, the admin said invitations will be sent from late November through January for R1.
