Yes, I think you'll be considered for round 2 in that case.

Answer received: They encourage us to get it in by deadline, but there's about a week of forgiveness (no formal drop dead date though).

Called the admissions office.

I saw some analysis on applicant numbers for R1. If there is any truth to it I feel little better but at the same time MIT Sloan has very objective admission process. They rank applicants on 0-10 scale for 9 different traits. I have faith in their process. I have a good feeling about this app.

Class size = ~400
Yield = 67% (ref: https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/ra ... sloan.html)

Therefore, acceptances = ~600

Acceptance rate = 13% (again, https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/ra ... sloan.html)

Therefore, applications = ~4615

I personally know someone who is a Sloan '14 who was told by the adcom that they typically receive twice as many applications in R2, so figure ~1500 for R1 and ~3000 in R2.

Their yield went high last year and they had to open more seats (415 total). So based on that their yield went to 70%. So this year, they will offer admission to around 571 people and 400 of them will accept the offer.

Let's say their acceptance rate is 13% so that brings number of applicant to 4392. If I follow the information in KingFalcon's post, that means 1460 people applied in R1.

Also generally they offer few more spots in R1 so say they offered 220 spots from 400 spots, they want to send out number corresponding to their yield. This year they adjust to yield data from last year they want to offer admission to 314 people in R1.

Rod Garcia said it in an interview that Sloan generally invites double the number of people they want to admit so they will send out interview invite to 628 people.

So out of 1460, I need to be one of those 628 people. Phew..I like the odds compare to Stanford GSB.

Although this calculation exercise is quite futile it is fun. I am pretty sure my boss would appreciate it.

Just wanted to offer some encouragement to all R1 applicants anxiously awaiting for interview invites!

I got my invite in mid-January. Invites didn't start rolling out in full force until mid-December. Soooooo sit back, relax and enjoy the holidays. Seriously, there's nothing else you can do at this point...

Purpleshirt, thanks for the encouragement..

However this post says you got invited mid December, no? -)

hahah wow, my bad!!!! Good fact checking skills. Sorry, I really didn't mean to mislead you all. I just totally remembered incorrectly....

Yes, I got my invite mid-Dec and interviewed in mid-January. The interview was what I was remembering. Sorry

But still, fact remains - you've submitted the best application you can. Nothing to do at this point....except peruse last year's thread :)

Btw, some insider info - current students are signing up to participate in lunches with on-campus interviewees. These look like they're starting Dec. 10!

Best of luck to everyone else anxiously waiting for an interview invite. My supplemental analytics indicate they still haven't viewed mine.

Anyone know the process for scheduling interviews? When Sloan invites you to interview at a nearby large city, are the # of spots sufficient for the # of candidates, or do slots fill up?

Is the interview invite for a single date or a range of dates to choose from?

If we're asked to do a Skype interview, can we choose to interview on-campus instead? How easy is scheduling on-campus interviews?

Here is the interview invite process from last year...

1. They offer you a range of dates - I think over a two week period - for a specific city. I believe the # of spots closely match the # of invites. Thus, if you want to most flexibility, sign up ASAP. They fill up quite quickly.

2. If you're asked to do a Skype interview because you're not close to an interview hub, I imagine you can ask to come to campus. They value in-person interviews, whether on campus or at an interview hub, so I don't think they would deter you if you want to invest the travel costs :)

Good luck this next week!!!!

Could you please share your interview experience? Was it mostly behavioral questions or "why MBA/ why Sloan?" questions?
Any tricky questions?

Thank you

After looking at last year's forums, if you're a West Coast applicant, don't expect to get an invite until the end of December.

They do it regionally, and we're much later down the road.

This made me chuckle.

Keep your chin up my friend.

Thanks IcanIwill. I am just putt-sing around. Of course I am eagerly waiting for that interview invite. Sometimes all the hyper competitiveness gets me. Right after I wrote that, I walked by an ugly poster in my office saying "Attitudes are contagious" and then I raelize that I shouldn't be spreading this down attitude.

I am a R1 applicant from Israel. My youtube video (the supplemental section) has not shown any new views since originally posted last month.
I know for a fact that people from my country got interview invites and I have been told that Rod Garcia himself comes to Israel to interview prospectives.
This does not make any sense?!
On the chat with admissions a couple of days ago I asked this question and was given a very generic answer that they haven't reviewed all the applications yet.
History shows that the invites are sent according to region.
If this means a ding it's ok, I get it, but the fact that they haven't seen my video is very weird to me, especially when they take pride in reviewing every aspect of your application and encourage applicants to the submit the supplemental essay.

Any insights? I'm getting really frustrated here…

Occam's razor (also written as Ockham's razor, Latin lex parsimoniae) is the law of parsimony, economy, or succinctness. It is a principle stating that among competing hypotheses, the one that makes the fewest assumptions should be selected.

Given that nobody has viewed your video and that they say they haven't read all applications, I think it's simplest to just take a deep breath and trust them. :)
