I'm specifically looking for comments on the following areas:

- relationship of X to Y vs. relationship between X and Y
- their own health vs. their health

Is the answer not D ?

"between" is needed when you are comparing two items...

relationship between X and Y ~ is appropriate here because the two have conflicting ideas about the central issue: smoking.

(D)

"relationship between x and y" is the correct idiom .. so D .. but "jeopardizing their own health and that of others" .. is "own" really required here ... plz explain ... isn't it redundant ..

D for me "relationship b/w X and Y" and "relationship HAS"

D also has a correct and clear modifier

In that case, it should be B.

relationship of "smoking" to "lung cancer"
