"so" in choice d is wrong or not?
I think it is wrong. because "so" refer to an adjective or adverb in previous clause. so, "so" is absurd here.

it is greater this year than was so
means
it is greater this year than it was great this year.

the similar sentence is
I learn gmat hard, more so than anybody else
this is correct.

do you agree with me? I am not confident, pls confirm. thanks

comparison gives us a lot of trouble
choice b show a pattern of comparison, in which the second element of comparison dose not appear but implied. this is strange but correct pattern.

7 person are killed by bee biting, more than have been killed by shark ( this is from gmatprep, pls google to find it)

A. There is no clear referent that ‘it’ refers to. Costs is plural so it cannot refer to costs. If it refers to ‘half the spending’ then the sentence would be a greater proportion than half the spending was in any previous election. This does not make sense.
B. correct answer.
C. usage of ‘have been’ is incorrect. The event already ended in 1992.
D. which cannot refer to the entire fact that ‘Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending’
E. which is incorrect for the same reason as stated in D. ‘has been’ is incorrect for the same reason as stated in C.
