Solution Y is 30% liquid X and 70% water. If 2 kliograms of water evaporates from 8 kg of solution Y and 2 kg of solution Y is added to remaining 6 kg of liquid, what percent of this new solution is liquid X?

A) 30%

B) 33 1/3%

C) 37 1/2%

D) 40%

E) 50%

I am getting an answer that is not in the options. Please explain your answer.

C. 37.5.

Original 8kg had 2.4X and 5.6Water. 2kg of water evaporated and we have the solution now having 2.4X and 3.6W

2Kg willhave 0.6X and 1.4Water and is added to the above changed solution.

We will then have New Y = 2.4+0.6 = 3 of X and 3.6 + 1.4 = 5 of Water.

So X in NewY = 3/8*100 = 37.5%.

Thanks. OA is C. The mistake I did was to take 2kg of liguid X instead of solution Y. I didn't read the problem well....
