What's the correct answer: A or B? I didn't quite get why B and not A

B it is.

"Spanning more than fifty years" is modifier for the FM's career and not FM.

Miller's career can span over 50 yrs, not Miller himself. So the option should surely be either B or C.

Between B and C, what should be the correct idiom, "begin in" or "begin with" ??

It's definetly B.
In A, the modifier is misplaced.
