FROM Stacy Blackman Consulting Blog: Darden MBA Essays for the Class of 2025

Is the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business on your shortlist of target MBA programs? Then get ready to hit the ground running, because the full-time MBA application is now live! Here are the Darden MBA essays for the 2022-2023 admissions cycle.

Darden MBA Essays
This year, Darden asks only three short-answer essay questions. The Darden MBA essays give every student the opportunity to demonstrate his or her strengths and narrative. The essay questions are designed to help the Admissions committee gain a holistic view of the applicant, with a focus on leadership and relationship building; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and career goals.

 • Given that you will be forming lifelong connections with your classmates that extend beyond the classroom, what is important for your classmates to know about you that is not on your resumé? (200 words)
 • Please describe a tangible example that illuminates your experience promoting an inclusive environment and what you would bring to creating an inclusive global community at Darden. (300 words)
 • At this time how would you describe your short-term, post-MBA goal in terms of industry, function, geography, company size and/or mission and how does it align with the long-term vision you have for your career? (200 words)

Darden Worldwide

Darden, which delivered in-person classes and learning throughout the 2021-22 academic year, plans to continue normal operations, complete with a full suite of Darden Worldwide Course opportunities, in the 2022–23 academic year. The Batten Foundation Worldwide Scholarship provides all Darden students in the full-time MBA program with an opportunity to participate in a Darden Worldwide Course.

Standardized Test Options and Waivers
A range of standardized test options will be accepted again this year, including GMAT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, and the Executive Assessment. These tests are all viewed equivalently by the admissions team. For applicants who would like to demonstrate their academic readiness without a standardized test, Darden Admissions will offer a standardized test waiver request process.

For those who would like to be considered, candidates will be asked to present strong alternate evidence to demonstrate their readiness through academic and professional accomplishments. More information regarding the standardized test waiver will be available in the coming weeks.

Are you interested in applying to the UT McCombs School of Business this year? Then get ready to start brainstorming! The Texas McCombs MBA application essays for the 2022-2023 admissions cycle have been confirmed. Last week, the school announced several changes to its application process designed to increase accessibility and reduce bias. These changes appear in the school’s testing requirements, a new video component, and the new Admissions Connections program.

If you’re interested in UT McCombs, this is a can’t-miss episode of the B-Schooled podcast! Erika interviews Rodrigo Malta, Managing Director, MBA Recruiting and Admissions at McCombs, who gives extremely insightful advice and information for aspiring MBAs.

UT McCombs MBA Application Essays
In order to streamline the application process,  the Full-Time MBA Admissions Team has reduced the number of required essays from two to one.

Required Prompt
Picture yourself at graduation. Describe how you spent your time as a Texas McCombs MBA to achieve your personal and professional goals. (500 words)

Optional Statement
Additionally, and if applicable, applicants can provide an optional statement in the essay section of the application. Applicants should only provide an optional statement if there is something they wish to explain about their candidacy that is not addressed elsewhere.  (e.g. gaps in work experience, choice of recommender, academic performance, or extenuating personal circumstances)

Texas McCombs Video Assessment
For the first time, the Texas MBA program is introducing a video assessment to its application package. As the McCombs AdCom team explains:

All applicants will complete the video assessment, which will give MBA candidates increased accessibility to the application process and the opportunity to share their story with us in their own voice.  Through the video assessment, the Admissions Committee will have a chance to experience the “real” you, beyond a resume, test scores, and transcripts. Lastly, the video assessment will enable Texas McCombs to reduce bias in the admissions process by providing all applicants with a structured and consistent assessment experience.

The video assessment is virtual and on-demand, so applicants can complete it from anywhere in the world at a time in the day convenient to them. The video assessment will help the Admissions Committee evaluate the following competencies that are crucial for the fit and success of our students within the program and their future careers:

Adaptability/Resilience
Ambition

Motivation
Career Goals

Empathy/Inclusivity
Verbal Communication

Collaboration
Self-Awareness

Applicants will be asked to use the video assessment tool to record responses to seven questions, with each response lasting no more than three minutes. Detailed instructions will be provided with the video assessment invitation so you know what to expect, and applicants will have the opportunity to practice as many times as they wish before completing the final video assessment.  Applicants will have seven days from the invitation to complete the final video assessment.

This is your time to show us your personality and enthusiasm! We recommend that you prepare for the video assessment similarly to how you might prepare for an interview.  Think reflectively about your work experience, strengths, weaknesses, and practice your delivery.

Texas McCombs Admissions Connection
Also new this year is a component designed to further foster the human component between applicants and the school. As the admissions team explains:

We pride ourselves on getting to know you at a personal level during the admissions process and will continue to provide hundreds of virtual and in-person ways for you to meet our students, alumni, faculty, and Admissions Team.

We invite all MBA applicants to close out their application process by signing up for a “Texas McCombs Admissions Connection” after completing all other MBA application requirements.  These live, virtual get-to-know-you sessions are an opportunity for our applicants to engage directly with a Full-Time MBA student. While not required, registering for and attending an Admissions Connection session is highly encouraged.

These sessions are NOT your traditional admissions interview.  MBA applicants will have 15 minutes with a member of the McCombs Ambassador Committee (MAC) to ask questions about the program/student experience, discuss information about their candidacy that is not addressed elsewhere, and align on the next steps in the application process. You will be able to choose your host whenever you register for a slot. There is no evaluative component to this session, although your student host will be able to pass along any information you share to the admissions committee.

Because the session will last approximately 15 minutes, we recommend applicants to come prepared with 3–5 questions about the MBA program and/or next steps in the application process.

Here are the Wharton MBA essays you’ll answer in this year’s application.

The Admissions Committee wants to get to know you on both a professional and personal level. We encourage you to be introspective, candid, and succinct. Most importantly, we suggest you be yourself. For additional essay writing resources, see the essay tips article.

First-time MBA applicants and re-applicants must complete both essays.

Essay 1: How do you plan to use the Wharton MBA program to help you achieve your future professional goals? You might consider your past experience, short and long-term goals, and resources available at Wharton. (500 words)

Essay 2:  Taking into consideration your background – personal, professional, and/or academic – how do you plan to make specific, meaningful contributions to the Wharton community? (400 words)

Required Essay for all Reapplicants: Please use this space to share with the Admissions Committee how you have reflected and grown since your previous application and discuss any relevant updates to your candidacy (e.g., changes in your professional life, additional coursework, and extracurricular/volunteer engagements). (250 words)

Optional Essay: Please use this space to share any additional information about yourself that cannot be found elsewhere in your application and that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee. This space can also be used to address any extenuating circumstances (e.g., unexplained gaps in work experience, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, areas of weakness, etc.) that you would like the Admissions Committee to consider. (500 words)

Tuesday Tips: Columbia MBA Essay Tips for 2022-2023 [#permalink]
Expert Reply
FROM Stacy Blackman Consulting Blog: Tuesday Tips: Columbia MBA Essay Tips for 2022-2023

Columbia Business School has released the application and essay questions for students beginning the MBA program in 2023. The questions are similar to past years but have been updated to focus on career goals and fit.

Columbia is a fast-paced program in a fast-paced city. The kind of MBA student who is a good fit for Columbia and its setting in New York City will be those who plan to take full advantage of the unique opportunities offered by that environment. Another aspect is having the academic background to handle the rigor of Columbia.

What is the AdCom looking for in Columbia MBA applicants?

One of SBC’s former CBS Admissions Officers shared, “With CBS, it really is a holistic approach, but the fit is VERY important.  They want to know why CBS- that is a big part of their culture. They want to know you’re going to fit in.”

Students at Columbia have big plans for their lives, MBA or not. Therefore, plan to brainstorm your career objectives, strengths, and weaknesses. Also, think about your overall life dreams before you start working on this application.

Admission options at Columbia are flexible. Including full-time MBA programs to a January entry without a summer internship. In addition, Columbia has an excellent executive MBA program. Columbia also offers an early decision option for candidates committed to Columbia.

The Columbia admissions cycle is rolling, so the earlier you submit your application, the sooner you will hear back. We recommend you try to submit your application as early as possible while maintaining high quality.

Feeling stumped by the Columbia MBA essays? Contact Stacy Blackman Consulting to learn how we can help with MBA admissions consulting.

Short Answer Question: What is your immediate post-MBA professional goal? (50 characters maximum)
Examples of possible responses:

• “Work in business development for a media company.”

• “Join a strategy consulting firm.”

• “Launch a data-management start-up.”

This is a deceptively simple question. It requires you to condense your career goals into a short career vision statement. As part of the question, Columbia provides a few examples, which are concise and to the point.

If your goal is to work at an investment bank after graduation, you could always just say: “Work in finance.” To add a bit more detail, consider adding a little more color. Something like: “Work in real estate finance for a private equity firm.” This tells the admissions committee far more about your interests and goals than just “work in finance.” It also sets the tone for the first essay.

Columbia MBA Essay 1
Through your resume and recommendation, we have a clear sense of your professional path to date. What are your career goals over the next three to five years and what is your long-term dream job? (500 words)

This question asks about your short- and long-term goals. We find that those who seek a top-tier MBA at a school like Columbia have Big Ideas. Also, the program will expose you to people and opportunities that will expand your horizons. Think about your true passions, and feel free to explore your biggest dreams.

As you talk about your future, you may need to refer to your past career and experiences. Also, think about the pivotal moments you can describe. In addition, use examples that support your future goals. In conclusion, your goals should have a logical progression, but you should show how you plan to adapt.

For example, perhaps you want to be a general manager of a company or division. But right now, you have been working primarily in marketing. Subsequently, you might take classes in finance and strategy and take part in consulting projects while interning at a start-up. All of these will provide experience for your general management path.

Most importantly, Columbia wants to know who you are and how you are different from other applicants. Don’t try to be an ideal applicant. Instead, reveal your genuine personality, motivations, and goals.

You might mix personal and professional interests to answer this prompt. In addition, you could focus on either of those angles, depending on the topics of your other essays. Finally, specifics will help you set yourself apart with this essay.

Columbia MBA Essay 2
We believe Columbia Business School is a special place. CBS proudly fosters a collaborative learning environment through curricular experiences like our clusters and learning teams, co-curricular initiatives like the Phillips Pathway for Inclusive Leadership, which aims to equip students with the skills and strategies necessary to lead in an inclusive and ethical manner, and career mentorship opportunities like our Executives-in-Residence program.

Why do you feel Columbia Business School is a good fit for you academically, culturally, and professionally? (300 words)

Your passion for Columbia is very important in admissions. This essay will help you showcase your fit with the program.

First, take the time to learn as much about Columbia’s MBA program and culture as you can. For example, read the website, watch admissions sessions online or visit in person, and try to network with current and former students. As a result of this research, you will know the school well.

Passion is Essential for Columbia MBA Applicants
Second, know yourself and why Columbia is a fit. And, make sure to tailor your answer to your individual goals for learning and career. Also, keep in mind Columbia’s academic and professional opportunities.

Finally, make sure you will benefit the community. Think about the unique skills and experiences you will share. Columbia wants to meet students who have a strong desire to attend their program. In conclusion, show your passion for the school and make the case for your admission.

Columbia MBA Essay 3
Tell us about your favorite book, movie, or song and why it resonates with you. (250 words)

Columbia admissions wants to know you better as a person. Choose a topic based on your personal tastes. For example, if you are a reader, you may pick a favorite childhood book. What do you remember about the story, and did it kindle your reading passion?

In contrast, a movie might have spurred emotions. Consider what was memorable about the film, and how you felt. You may associate a specific song with a meaningful relationship. How did the song impact your life?

Whichever art medium you choose, it should reveal more about you as a person. Make sure you use specific examples that help the reader understand how you think and feel. Finally, your essay should provide an understanding of your personality and motivations.

Optional Essay

If you wish to provide further information or additional context around your application to the Admissions Committee, please upload a brief explanation of any areas of concern in your academic record or personal history. This does not need to be a formal essay. You may submit bullet points. (Maximum 500 Words)

Note that this question is entirely optional. You do not need to answer if there is nothing more to communicate.

Focus only on specific areas of concern. For example, you may need to address a lack of demonstrated quantitative abilities or the lack of a recommendation from a current supervisor. Or, you might have gaps in work experience or low grades.

In addition, Columbia has stated submitting bullet points is also fine. For example, if you only need to point out a grade in one class, that may only require a few lines.

Remember, it is best to explain the issue briefly. Then, show how you have addressed it. Finally, explain why this issue should not impact your admission to Columbia.

Are you applying to the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business this year? Make sure to read our Darden MBA essay tips to learn more about what Darden is looking for. Also, note that Darden has extended test flexibility this year. Applicants can request a test waiver or submit a range of tests, including MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT.

In these Darden MBA essay tips, we focus on leadership and a sense of passion and purpose. In all of these essays, you will want to communicate who you are and what motivates you. Also, consider both your career and your personal life in your essays. The restrictive word counts can be challenging, so stay focused and precise in your responses.

How should you highlight personal qualities for these Darden MBA essay tips? First, consider that leadership is crucial to future Darden MBAs. Also, teamwork is essential at Darden, a school with a small, tight-knit community. The case method is the primary teaching method, similar to Harvard Business School. Engaging with the case method requires the ability to communicate clearly and bring your perspective to the conversation.

Are you looking for perspective in your approach to your Darden MBA application? Contact us to discuss how Stacy Blackman Consulting can help.

Darden MBA Essay Tips
For the 2022-2023 application cycle, Darden has updated the essay questions to three simple prompts. The goal here is to get to know all of the various facets of your background and personality. For more information on the application, visit Darden’s admissions website.

Essay 1: Given that you will be forming lifelong connections with your classmates that extend beyond the classroom, what is important for your classmates to know about you that is not on your resumé? (200 words)
At Darden, your classmates are crucial to your learning. You will be assigned a team of diverse classmates to meet before class and discuss your case assignments. The purpose of these discussions is to ensure that all of you are prepared to participate in the class discussion. Ideally, your classmates are part of a supportive community.

This essay allows you to introduce yourself to the Darden community. What should your classmates know about your background? What diverse perspective will you bring to the learning environment? Perhaps you have unique professional experiences that will be new to the class.

You may be from an underrepresented region of the world, or you have a compelling personal background. In just a few words, describe what you think will set you apart from your peers and be interesting for the class to know about you. Learn more about your potential classmates by talking to a student ambassador or reviewing Darden’sMBA Student Stories.

Essay 2: Please describe a tangible example that illuminates your experience promoting an inclusive environment and what you would bring to creating an inclusive global community at Darden. (300 words)
This question focuses specifically on diversity and inclusion. Therefore, you should consider your record of engagement with diverse identities and communities in your example. Past experience is a great predictor of future performance, and specific examples provide the most insight into your behavior.

If you have not spent a significant amount of time outside your own country or culture, look at college or work. Many people live and work with diverse groups at university or the workplace, which can be a good source of inspiration.

For example, perhaps you started a mentoring program or funded internships for underrepresented employees. It’s possible only your department or company felt the impact of that action. However, it shows your values and allows you to discuss how you would significantly affect change at Darden.

In addition, you may have found that you learned about yourself as well. Perhaps in your advocacy, you learned a more nuanced approach to a community or people. Or, you may have discovered your own blind spots and biases. Self-reflection is welcome in this question.

As you write, make sure you place your story in historical context and navigate power dynamics effectively. In that case, reading resources like the HBR collection on racism in the workplace may be useful.

Finally, Darden wants to know how you will bring your advocacy to the MBA program. Consider what you have learned about yourself and how to advocate for a diverse team. How will your unique background contribute to inclusion for everyone?

Essay 3: At this time how would you describe your short-term, post-MBA goal in terms of industry, function, geography, company size and/or mission and how does it align with the long-term vision you have for your career? (200 words)
This question focuses on your short-term career goal. However, it also asks in the context of your overall long-term career vision. Your career goals should fit seamlessly into your personal story.

Do not get intimidated by career goals questions if you are still exploring what you want to do with your life. Darden offers intensive career counseling, and you will have an opportunity to explore many career paths in school. Simply put, the essay question seeks to understand why you are pursuing this path and what you hope to get out of it.

The goal is to gain insight into how you think and plan and what motivates your career decisions. If you are inspired by what you have experienced as a leader and as someone who positively impacts others, that inspiration should be part of your career aspirations. Darden will help you refine your goals and learn the skills you need.

The SBC team wishes you much luck with your Darden MBA application process and would love to support your efforts.  Contact us today to discuss how Stacy Blackman Consulting can help with your MBA essays.

The new online application form opens approximately two months before each Round 1 application deadline. To be included in a specific round, you must submit your completed application by 23:59 pm Central European Time on the day of the deadline.

To enjoy an optimum application experience and to avoid the peak period, INSEAD strongly encourages you to apply a couple of weeks prior to the application deadline, if possible.

Competition for each round is equal regardless of the intake or round you apply for. INSEAD reviews the pool of applications submitted within each round independently. This keeps the “offer ratio” (percentage of candidates accepted vs. applications received) fairly constant across all rounds.

For more information on applying, please visit the INSEAD admissions website.

Tuesday Tips: Tuck MBA Essays and Tips for 2022-2023 [#permalink]
Expert Reply
FROM Stacy Blackman Consulting Blog: Tuesday Tips: Tuck MBA Essays and Tips for 2022-2023

The Tuck MBA essays are out, and we have the latest tips for you! The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth has a small student body and a rural location, combined with world-class faculty and academic focus.

The admissions committee has spent considerable time developing a clear set of criteria for admissions. Through their Tuck MBA essays, successful applicants will show they are: smart, accomplished, aware, and encouraging.

These criteria are a big part of your Tuck MBA essays. Amy Mitson, Co-Executive Director, Admissions and Financial Aid, has a series of blog posts on the Tuck website to explain in more depth.

Overall, Tuck is looking for applicants who show a pattern of behavior that demonstrates these qualities. As Mitson writes: “Results rarely carry over from one context to the next, but your behaviors are transferable skills that predict impact at Tuck and beyond, and they help us calibrate across diverse backgrounds and experiences.”

For example, you would describe a pattern of accomplishments in your essays and resume. And then, you would show awareness when you explain how you view the world in your essays and interviews. Finally, you could show you are encouraging by describing a time when you have challenged and developed others.

Stacy Blackman Consulting can help you put together successful Tuck MBA essays. Contact us to learn more about the customized assistance we can provide for you. To learn more about the Tuck MBA application, visit the Tuck MBA admissions website.

Tuck MBA Essays
Essay One: Tuck students can articulate how the distinctive Tuck MBA will advance their aspirations. Why are you pursuing an MBA and why Tuck? (300 words)
Being aware is one of the four criteria for successful Tuck MBA essays. To show awareness in this essay, spend some time considering your goals. Also, think about why you think an MBA is the right choice. Finally, consider why Tuck is the right place for you.

Once you have crystallized your goals, you must articulate them in this essay. Make sure you have researched Tuck thoroughly. Use that research to show why Tuck is the right place for your next step. Being aware also means seeing the opportunities available at Tuck. Making appropriate goals for yourself, considering your background and the MBA, also shows awareness.

Essay Two: Tuck students recognize how their individuality adds to the fabric of Tuck. Tell us who you are. (300 words)
Make sure you have spent time learning about Tuck and why you think you fit with the community. This essay is the perfect place to talk about how you are encouraging. How have you spent time developing people in your life? And, what will you do to bring that quality to Tuck?

Finally, by reaching out to current students and alumni, you will learn more about the Tuck experience. That will help you better understand how you fit in at Tuck and write better Tuck MBA  essays. First, ask your friends and family if they know students or alumni you can connect with. Or, Tuck admissions can match you with a member of the community.

Once you understand Tuck, think about the experiences that have shaped you. This essay is an ideal place to talk about some of your past accomplishments that involved others. For example, what you have experienced in various communities and what you have contributed or learned. You can show that you are aware, of yourself and others, by describing your experiences.

If you are struggling to come up with a topic to discuss, talk to your friends and family about any stories that remind them of your unique personality and how you interact with others. Sometimes talking with the people who know you the best can aid your self-awareness.

Essay Three: Tuck students are encouraging, collaborative, and empathetic, even when it is not convenient or easy. Describe a meaningful experience in which you exemplified one or more of these attributes. (300 words)
Tuck is a team-oriented culture. It’s essential to be an encouraging person who wants to develop others, and this essay is another place to show that quality. This essay can show your personality and teamwork skills.

Think about times that you invested in another person’s success, even when inconvenient. Maybe you helped a competitor at work. Or, perhaps you helped someone who was not in a position to reciprocate. It’s easy to help others in a low-stakes environment. It is hard to be encouraging when it doesn’t personally benefit you.

Think about your behavior in a team. Do you help your teammates understand issues or hold up team progress? How do you resolve conflict? When have you helped someone when it was not noticed or required? Choose a time when you have truly been an encouraging and helpful teammate. Explain the situation, what you did, and the result.

If you learned any lessons that you have applied since then, describe those lessons.

Optional Essay: Please provide any additional insight or information that you have not addressed elsewhere (e.g., atypical choice of evaluators, factors affecting academic performance, unexplained job gaps or changes). Complete this question only if you feel your candidacy is not fully represented by this application. (300 words)
This optional essay is designed only for you to use as needed. If you feel that the rest of the application has fully described your personal qualities and accomplishments, no need to write this one. However, do use this essay if you need to explain anything to the admissions committee.

Examples of necessary explanations include a low GPA or academic probation. Or, perhaps you have gaps in your work experience or a non-professional recommender. If anything in your application may raise questions, clear up those doubts in this essay.

Ideally, an optional essay is brief, to the point, and focuses on the future. Succinctly explain what happened. Then, focus on how you improved and will continue to improve. Remain forward-looking and optimistic.

Tuesday Tips: Texas McCombs MBA Application Essay Tips for 2022-2023 [#permalink]

FROM Stacy Blackman Consulting Blog: Tuesday Tips: Texas McCombs MBA Application Essay Tips for 2022-2023

The UT McCombs School of Business is a globally recognized MBA program located in Austin, Texas, a center of technology and business for the region. When you are getting ready to draft your Texas McCombs MBA application, consider that entrepreneurship is a huge focus.

Along with Management Consulting, Clean Tech, Innovation Leadership, and Supply Chain & Operations Management, Entrepreneurship is a top 5 concentration. The class size at Texas McCombs MBA is small and close-knit, and the students’ backgrounds are diverse.

Texas McCombs MBA admissions committee has announced a new set of essays this year. And, these new essays are meant to increase accessibility and minimize bias. This change moves the required essays from two to one and adds a video assessment. You’ll find more information for your Texas McCombs MBA application on the Texas MBA Insider blog.

This year Texas McCombs MBA admissions committee also added a Texas McCombs Admissions Connection. This is a zoom meeting where candidates can ask their questions directly to a member of the community.

The Texas McCombs MBA Application
Essay One
Picture yourself at graduation. Describe how you spent your time as a Texas McCombs MBA to achieve your personal and professional goals. (500 words)
This essay is your opportunity to demonstrate your fit with the Texas McCombs MBA program. As part of your homework for the Texas McCombs MBA application, you should learn as much as possible about the school. Here, you can combine that research with your aspirations and goals.

Use your imagination and think about how you might describe your Texas McCombs MBA experience at graduation. You’ll likely have had both professional and personal growth. Also, you will have met interesting people who will be part of your lifelong network.

Researching Texas McCombs is key to this essay
To get started, research some of the unique opportunities at McCombs, like the Venture Labs, if you have entrepreneurial dreams. Another great program is The MBA+ Program, with options to work with large companies. Living in the city of Austin is also a benefit to the program to consider.

For example, maybe you were interested in working for a major technology firm to learn product management skills to start your own business. While at McCombs, you might have tested ideas with the Venture Labs. You could have also consulted for major companies like Adobe or HP to learn how large companies worked. These experiences were probably formative as you made your career plans.

Don’t forget the personal! McCombs has an active and engaged student culture with student clubs you likely joined. And your classmates and the friends you made were undoubtedly an influence.

Video Assessment
Texas McCombs is excited to introduce the video assessment as a new application component for the 2022-23 Full-Time MBA admissions cycle.
MBA candidates with a submitted application, whose application fee has been paid or waived will be invited to take part in our Texas McCombs Video Assessment. The video assessment is virtual and on-demand, so applicants can complete it from anywhere in the world at a time in the day convenient to them. The video assessment will help the Admissions Committee evaluate the following competencies that are crucial for the fit and success of our students within the program and their future careers:
Adaptability/Resilience Ambition

Motivation Career Goals

Empathy/Inclusivity Verbal Communication

Collaboration Self-Awareness

Applicants will be asked to use the video assessment tool to record responses to seven questions, with each response lasting no more than three minutes each.
More tips will be provided in the coming weeks.
Though more details will be provided in the coming weeks, you can start thinking about what you want to communicate to the Texas McCombs MBA admissions committee in this video assessment.

Evaluate what you may want to describe to Texas McCombs. For example, your cultural background or formative moments in your life. Also consider friends, family, and colleagues who have influenced you. To identify engaging stories for your Texas McCombs MBA application, think about those pivotal moments of change.

Life transitions can spark your Texas McCombs MBA application essay topics.
For many people, the transition from high school to college and from college to work leads to personal change. Others have had formative childhood experiences or experiences that led to shifts in perspective, like travel or living outside your home country. These types of incidents could be an excellent way to illustrate your values and what motivates you.

This video assessment could allow you to add elements of emotion, such as humor, that are harder to convey in writing. Therefore, think about the bullet points you want to cover and any essential points. Before you talk into the camera, make sure you rehearse. Consider having a friend or family member there so you can speak to a person instead of the camera.

Optional Statement
Additionally, and if applicable, applicants can provide an optional statement in the essay section of the application. Applicants should only provide an optional statement if there is something they wish to explain about their candidacy that is not addressed elsewhere.
An optional essay allows you to explain anything that needs more context. For example, some areas to explain for your Texas McCombs MBA application include: lower than average test scores, any grades below a C on your transcript, academic probation, or a significant resume gap. Keep your explanation short and factual. Also, focus on context for the issue instead of excuses.

For additional information on applying, please visit the McCombs admissions website.
