Sentence has subject verb agreement error.

"(Steve, along with his oldest brothers)" is Singular subject and should have singular verb " is".

Hence Eliminate A,C,D.

(E) Steve and his oldest brothers is
and - makes subject plural and hence should have plural verb - are.

Hence E is Eliminated.

(B) Steve, along with his oldest brothers, is ------- Correct.
Has Singular subject "(Steve, along with his oldest brothers)" with singular verb "is".

Answer (B)...

A- Subject Verb don't agree in number. Ignore the modifier and it says 'Steve are' which doesn't make sense.
B- Correct.
C- Same mistake as A.

Additive Phrases - Along with, In addition to, As well as etc
Tip - Whenever two subjects are joined by ADDITIVE PHRASES, verb is decided by the first subject.
Older Brothers, along with Steve, are --- CORRECT

So, it is wrong to say that whenever two subjects are joined by ADDITIVE PHRASES, verb would be singular.
