Hey guys, I'm just re-posting the contents of my post in the suggestions thread. Kindly share you thoughts on this!


Intro:

Okay... For those who are familiar with the Star Wars series, a Youngling (Future Jedi Knight in the making) attends the Jedi Academy where Yoda teaches the Youngling how to tap into the force. After the Youngling achieves a certain degree of mastery over the force, he/she is assigned a Master. The Youngling is now a Padawan ;)

The Master guides the Padawan on a one-on-one basis till the Padawan becomes a Jedi Knight.

The GMAT Club Mentoring Program would be on similar lines; no flashy light sabers though :(

Master = A person who has already score +760 and has the inclination and the capability to teach.

Padwan = A person who has already proved a certain degree of mastery over GMAT by scoring above 680 in the actual GMAT or any other recognized practice test.

Youngling = A person who is yet to master the basics.

The student-mentor will have a separate forum which will be password protected and completely invisible to everyone else. The mentor can then provide one on one guidance and help the pupil get the desired score.

Of course, there would be eligibility criteria such as:
Members with a minimum number of 200 posts and/or 50 kudos can ask for a mentor
Mentorship can be availed only for a period of one month
Members must have a minimum score (say 650) on actual GMAT or any recognized prep cat.

and perhaps rewards too...
e.g. If Sally scores a 760 on GMAT, John is rewarded with a medal or something (it can be displayed in the place where the GMAT Club Test Logo appears)

Do you think this can be discussed in a separate thread? It might go unnoticed by majority of the members if it remains a post in this thread. I think it's a killer idea and it has a lot of potential!

A separate thread would gather more attention and generate more responses. Could be made a sticky even.

With just 8 views, I think we should wait for a while before we formally start assigning Mentors to anyone.

Mentoring is a serious affair and mentors must be credible and accountable... Many might be really good at quant and/or verbal but the ability to teach is also a mandatory prerequisite!

Let's see how this develops :)

This sounds like an excellent idea! Did it ever take off? I would love to see this come alive. I'd be a youngling, tried to start my own study group, but people are just giving up on studying, or have other priorities.

Anyway, maybe the younglings can commit to mentor for a certain amount of time once they reach their target score, I'm sure mentoring is a big deal, but if we commit beforehand I think you'd have more mentors down the line.
