Suggestions for learning programming.

You are shooting in right direction.

Data Science track from John Hopkins would be good way to go.

From my perspective, it doesn't really matter which courses you will decide to start, they are all good and they all target some specific audience, for instance beginner vs. intermediate vs. advanced.


What you should ask yourself is what are your goals toward programming ?

For what purpose do you need to learn to code ?

Is it for academia, is it for some particular job ?

Then you need to decide which program or program(s) you want to learn first, or only ?


Programs I can recommend are :

Wolfram Mathematica or Wolfram Language

R

Python

MATLAB

C++


You don't need all of them.

What you actually need depends on your goals.

One can be enough or two.


Data Science and R are certainly great place to start and very popular these days, so you should jump on it.

There is no need for me to enumerate here sources and authors, they all will suffice, especially for beginners.


Just beware it takes some time, actually a lot, to be proficient in just one program.
