T1 and T2 are two rectangular tanks. Is the capacity of T1 less than that of T2?

(1) Heights of tanks T1 and T2 are equal.

(2) T1 has a square base of perimeter same as the perimeter of base of T2.

Q... Capacity of $$T_1<T_2$$..

(1) Heights of tanks T1 and T2 are equal.
nothing much.. let height be h
Insuff

(2) T1 has a square base of perimeter same as the perimeter of base of T2.
height not given..
insuff

Combined..
height is SAME, so the capacity would depend on the AREA of base..
Given the perimeter, square has the MAX area..
so $$T_1$$ has MORE area than $$T_2$$ if $$T_2$$ has rectangle base OR both are EQUAL if $$T_2$$ has square base..
Thus $$T_1$$ will NEVER be < $$T_2$$
so ans is always NO
suff

IMO E.

T1 & T2 are two rectangular solids. We are asked to find which one has a greater capacity or volume.

St 1) Heights of tanks T1 and T2 are equal.

Insuff. ( depending on base area the volumes would change)

St 2) We are given the perimeter of square base of T1 is same as perimeter of T2.

Insuff by itself as it does not inform us about the height.

1 + 2 together

Lets assume simple numbers here... let base of T1 be of side 3. so perimeter - 4*3 = 12.
Since T2 base is not mentioned to be a square let us assume 5 & 1. So perimeter = 2*( 5 + 1 ) = 12.

Here the volumes will be H*(3*3) = 9H which do not equal H*(5*1) = 5H.

However if we had assumed the bases of T1 and T2 to be identical then perimeter and area of base would both be equal.

Hence insuff & Option E is correct.

Please give kudos if you liked the explanation...
