Technology Management Schools

Hi everybody,

I'd like to ask you about what MBA program will prepare me better for Technology Management. Short-term goal ---> consultant long-term goal ---> CIO

The schools I have in mind are the following: Haas, MIT, Kellogg, UCLA, and Stern. All of those have specific coursers for IT management, but I would like to focus on only three. Any suggestions?

I think it mostly depends on your profile. MIT and Haas probably provide the greatest number of opportunities in tech, but for your third school (Kellogg vs. UCLA) it depends on your tolerance for application risk. I'd suggest that you compare the employment reports of UCLA and Kellogg to determine which school has better on-campus representation for the companies that you're interested in. Don't underestimate the value of location as well. Kellogg has a great international brand, but UCLA would provide much easier access to the Southern CA job market (especially smaller companies).

I haven't researched Stern, so I can't comment on their fit with your goals.

Thank you for your opinion. The companies I'm interested in are Deloitte, Accenture, McKinsey (Business Technology), and other IT consulting firms. I will follow your advice and check in which School the companies are better represented.

Thank you for sharing the ranking. I have a question here, I have checked the curriculum of wharton and it does not have a concentration in technology so I don't know why it is included here.

Surprisingly this other ranking does not even mention MIT

I would also link the two - find out where those firms that you are interested in recruit from the most. Talk to the recruiting office as well in those schools and find out how many people they placed at those firms.
