(B)
Could be (E) if it's not missing an "as" after "such".

I find them all wrong

every one of them is comparing tissues with tooth and bone

they should have stated "tissues like /such as those of tooth and bone"

I know this from OG, but always had trouble with this

Classic!

I'd pick (D)

Examining the options:

Teratomas are unusual forms of cancer because they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone not normally found in the organ in which the tumor appears.

(A) because they are composed of tissues such as tooth and bone - not quite appropriate because the last part of the sentence "not normally found.." seems to modify ".. tooth and bone" and not really emphasise on the characteristics of the cancerous tissues.

(B) because they are composed of tissues like tooth and bone that are - same as (A) where "such as" is replaced by "like"

(C) because they are composed of tissues, like tooth and bone, tissues - redundant usage of the second "tissues". It could've been appropriate had the punctuation been better.

(D) in that their composition, tissues such as tooth and bone, is - I find this most appropriate because the the part "tissues such as tooth and bone" aptly modifies the composition of the cancerous growth.

(E) in that they are composed of tissues such tooth and bone, tissues - "in that they are composed of ... " takes away the significance from the actual composition of the cancerous growth (which, IMO, is the central message of the sentence) and focuses more on the fact that they are indeed composed of tissues (what kind of tissues somehow takes a back seat)

Eagerly awaiting OA with explaination.

thanks maaverick for the explanation. You're very right about (B). But I'd choose (E) instead of (B). It is the tissues that are not common, not the composition that are not common, I think.

I prefer C.
(A) means tooth and bone not normally found, errorneous !
(B) the same
(D)Since tissues are appositive, but it seems have no referent.
(E) it should be such as rather than such alone.

What is the answer. I chose B because it has proper pronoun usage.

Good expl on why "B" is wrong....but I disagree on "D"...as the stem wants to say that "tissues" r not normally found and not their composition.

I am switching my ans to "C"

I think D creates a subject-verb disagreement. All the verbs are plural so "is" should be "are".

Guys, this question has been discussed before many times. I am sure almost everybody makes mistake on this one.

There is a typo in (E), which is the correct answer.

Quick trick is: if there are options between "because" and "in that", it is more likely that "in that" is tested.
