The average (arithmetic mean) of b bowling scores is x. When one score is discarded, the average of the remaining scores becomes y. What is the discarded score?

A. b(x – y) + y
B. b(x + y) + y
C. bx + y
D. b(x – y) – y
E. b(x – y) – 1

sum of b scores ; bx
sum after 1 score is discarded ; (b-1)*y
so discarded score = bx-by+y
b(x – y) + y
IMO A
