Hi All,

Certain low-level questions in the Quant section of the GMAT will be simple tests of your arithmetic/algebra skills. They're easy pick-ups, so you shouldn't overthink the work - just put the pen on the pad and answer the question.

The average of 9 numbers is 7....

The sum of those numbers is (9)(7) = 63.

The average of 7 other numbers is 9....

The sum of those numbers is (7)(9) = 63

The sum of ALL 16 numbers is 63+63 = 126. The average of those numbers is 126/16 = 63/8 = 7 7/8.

Final Answer:

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

the average of 9 numbers is 7
the sum of those numbers is (9)*(7) = 63.
the average of 7 other numbers is 9
the sum of those numbers is (7)*(9) = 63.
the sum of all 16 numbers is 63+63 = 126.
so,the average of those numbers is 126/16 = 63/8 = 7 7/8.
