My answer is (D). It took me 45 seconds.

Both "demanding that the ban" and "place" should not be unlined to ensure split at the beginning and the end.

This question tests command subjective and parallelism.

(A) In command subjective, "should" should not be used. Note that in British English, "should" is allowed.
(B) In command subjective or through parallelism, "the festival takes place" should be "the festival take place".
(C) In command subjective, the correct construct is as follows:
(D) This is the correct construct.
(E) See (A).

The ban on a bull-fighting festival in Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state, hurts the sensitivities of millions of citizens who took to the streets in protest, demanding that the ban should be reverted and the festival takes place.

(A) demanding that the ban should be reverted and the festival takes place

(B) demanding that the ban be reverted and the festival takes place

(C) demanding that the ban is reverted and the festival took place

(D) demanding that the ban be reverted and the festival take place

(E) demanding that the ban should be reverted and the festival should take place

Topic: Subjunctive mood

"demand"+ that..
We need to follow the basic rules.
1)Should is not used in the subjective (Reason demand and should are redundant)
2)The following be-forms are not used am, is,& are. We need to use e instead of any of them.

By applying the above rules we can eliminate all the options except B,D.

In subjective we must use plural form ... Hence festival take place is correct.

IMO D

I think the question needs to be modified :
The ban on a bull-fighting festival in Tamil Nadu, a South Indian state, hurt

Ban (Subject) .... hurt(verb) there is an SV agreement error.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The main clause is in past simple tense, so "hurt" agrees with "ban".
