The question seems to be ambiguous because
"The basic one-way air fare for a child aged between 3 and 10 years costs half the regular fare for an adult plus a reservation charge that is the same on the child's ticket as on the adult's ticket."

That sentence can be interpreted as C = A/2 + R, where C is the basic one-way air fare. While the ideal interpretation to arrive at the answer is C = A/2. If the later interpretation has to be considered, then you need to split up the original sentence.
