The idea with D is that it has parallel structure: The benefits range from X to Y to Z. However, I don't think the GMAT would ever produce a sentence like this. First, the commas between the "to" items are unnecessary. Second, the idiom here is too casual and imprecise: it would make more sense to use two items to define a range. Third, "increases in property value" is odd. It makes it sound as if simply having trees on your property will cause multiple increases in your property value. It would make more sense to say that it would give you a higher property value.

E is the correct answer choice since all parts in the list are nouns and thus have a parallel structure.

The benefits of having many trees on one's property ranges from insulation and energy conservation[/u] in summer and winter, to cleaner air, and increases in property value.

My two cents.

'E' is wrong because of the comma "+ and" construction

Usage of ", + and"

He likes A, B, and C. --> A, B, C should be parallel.
He likes A, and he wants B. --> A and B should be independent clauses.

For these reasons, E is wrong...

The benefits of having many trees on one's property ranges from insulation and energy conservation in summer and winter, to cleaner air, and increases in property value.

The construction is prep. phrase + prep. phrase + noun phrase ??

I believe the answer is D because the format of the sentence is "The benefits range from ... x, to y, to z."

I think E would have been a more viable choice if the comma was not there. If the comma wasn't there, I would have thought the structure to be "The benefits range from....x and y, to a and b". However, because the comma is there, it doesn't sound right (sorry, for lack of a better reason) to say "The benefits range from x, to y, and z". The "...and z" makes it seem not as parallel.

Anyone else have thoughts on D?

The stuff between the two commas can be removed and read. (Between the two commas - typically the matter is extra information and the sentence needs to make sense even if we remove the stuff), On this note - idiomatic usage "from X to Y" (meaning wise clarity) is present in D.

However, the source of the question needs to be checked.

we have 3 pattern in english

I go from a to b
I go from a to b to c. thị mean I go to from a to b and I go from b to c. this meaning is different.

I go from a to b and c . this has different meaning. it means b and c are at the same place.

so.
D is correct. E is incorrect because b and c are not paralel logically

Answer D

We can use from… to…, to…
…constructions that range from houses to sport facilities, to palaces

The sentence mentions 3 benefits. Let’s rewrite it as a list:
The benefits of having many trees on one's property are insulation and energy conservation in summer and winter , cleaner the air, and increases property value.

Now we change it using the idiom from… to..., to

The comma in E makes this answer wrong.

The answer should be E. from & to x and y are used correctly ... D doesn't sound correct, can anyone explain?
