D..
do not contain "x y z " or "anything".

Could anyone explain as to why an "OR" has to be used before "anything" in this sentence.

I would go with D too.

The construction of the sentence is - do not contain x,y, or z.
Now x is 'color or flavor additives', y is 'chemical preservatives' and z is 'anything that has been synthesized'.

Hope I did not confuse you further.

I think it has to be between C and E..

IT is a,b and c
where a is d or e.

I defintely think it has to be C...

the oa is D.

I got this correct however, i was wondering why B was wrong?

The sentece does need "or" but doesnt b preserve the parallelism?

for example waht if the sentence read

The commission has directed advertisers to restrict
the use of the word "natural" to foods that do not
contain flavor additives or that has been synthesized.
