Let the cost price per article be c. The cost price of 36 articles would be 36c.

Since The selling price of x articles equals the cost price of 36 the selling price of x articles must be 36c.

So the selling price per article is 36c/x

Now 12.5 % =1/8

Profit is also (selling price-cost)/(cost)

(36c/x-c)/(c)=(1/8)

The c's cancel and we obtain 32 for x.

The question says CP of 36#=SP of x# (#=articles).....................(eq 1)

Let
Cost per unit = 100
+Profit per unit = 12.5
Sales per unit = 112.5

Putting these values in eq 1,
100 * 36= 112.5 * x
$$\frac{3600}{112.5}$$ = x
Therefore, x = 32
