A. "The Daughters of the American Revolution" is a singular subject so "admits" matches the singular verb requirement.

Guys, i must ask you, why it is not B???

I mean do we think of Daughters of American Revolution as a unitary thing, as singular? And if so, why? Could you please explain?

Thanks,

Daughters of American Revolution is a name given to an organisation. Association of women acting as a whole. Therefore it is singular.

Ignore Daughters of American Revolution.

The clue to do should have been this:

"a volunteer service organization" Now just complete the SC with this part and ul see why A is correct.

"The Daughters of the American Revolution" is singular subject. Hence needs "admits"...singular verb.

That leaves A, C and E. E is out.

I would vote for A.

+1 A

E is tempting, however, I think it changes the meaning. It may imply that those women only can prove lineal descent.

OA is A. I was still kind of stuck between A and C because "only" seems kind of redundant given that already it claims to be a "daughters of the american revolution" already indicates this.

I will go with C... A can also be right.... but the "only" before women seems redundant

The decision of singular or plural subject for the verb is really unclear for me.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is one organization, so it's a singular noun

To make it more clear think of the sentence like this:
"A volunteer service organization admits as members only women who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution."

If we make the assumption that it's an "organization", which is singular, that makes sense.
I'm confused how we make that determination. Is it because the non-essential modifier "a volunteer service organization"

Yeah my thought process was that that modifier describing it referred to it as a singular service organization.

The Daughters of the American Revolution, is the name of an organistion and a proper noun. All names , titles etc are singular in usage although they may contain plural words. Examples:

1 A Mid-Summer Night's Dreams is a comedy by Shakespear
2. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was written by Mark Twain
3. The Servants Of Mary is a wide spread organization
