The economic forces that may effect the new public offering of stock include sudden downturns in the market,hedging and other investor strategies for preventing losses,loosening the interest rates in Washington,and fearing that the company may still be undercapitalized.

A)loosening the interest rates in Washington,and fearing that the company may still be undercapitalized.

B)loosening the interest rates in Washington,and a fear of the company still being undercapitalized.

C)a loosening of the interest rates in Washington,and fearing that the company may still be undercapitalized.

D)a loosening of the interest rates in Washington,and a fear of the still undercapitalized company.

E)a loosening of the interest rates in Washington,and a fear that the company may still be undercapitalized.

[/i]its easy to know that this is concerned with parallel construction , so as we have hedging so we will have loosening and fearing,also since any other part of the sentence does not begin with an article "a" so we choices C,D,E are out and since A has fearing so the answer is "A" is it ??

yes, it is testing ll construction but the ll one is E not A. we need nouns or noun phrases to make this sentence ll.

so E should be correct.

thank you every one...so can we say that adding an article infront of any verb would make a noun or noun phrase..

i.e loosening is present participle ,"a loosening" becomes noun ?

Will go with E too.
Though some people will say that || construction is maintained in option A, but after seeing so many examples and doing many mistakes, have learned that || construction is not only about verbs…….. In this case…….. sudden downturns doesnot agree with hedging and preventing hence there must be something else that we should check that should be ||

A is not ||.

'Sudden downturns' and 'hedging' are all nouns.

'Loosening' and 'fearing' are all verbs

"C" Is wrong as the noun form of "fear" is fear where as fearing is present participle i.e. a verb again.
