B is right because of S-V issue.

IF they is placed before each, it makes the subject plural. On the other hand, if them is placed after each then the subject is singular.

e.g. Each of them has done their home work.

They each have done their home work.

In the underlined section we've advocateS, so we need a plural verb which B has.

E is wordy and "because" doesn't serves the same purpose as since.

Since can refer to both time and also be synonymous to 'because'

Here while using since it can also be interpreted as ...

It is a compilation written by these people from the time they were advocates.
IMO Option C makes it ambiguous.

Why not E. It sounds bad for the ear.

B is also good. Confused.. Lol..

I was browsing to find the solution for this SC and one of the MGMAT instructor said -

THIS QUESTION IS INVALID. PRETEND YOU NEVER SAW IT AND SPEND YOUR TIME INSTEAD ON VALID QUESTIONS!

My vote for E since all other options are ambiguous.

Re-igniting the debate, I feel C is the correct choice here.

E is very awkward (all of the men ... )

C is right ans.

E can not be correct because just reading the names one cannot assume that advocates were 'men'.

The Federalist papers is a compilation of articles written by Alexander Hamilton and James Madison, as well as a few by John Jay, since each of them were advocates of the Constitution.

If you notice there is a pronoun reference error , "them" in below sentence can refer to any of the noun Alexander, James, John or articles. Here only men are the advocates of the Constitution . Hence the answer

(A) since each of them were ("each of them" can again include article)
(B) since they were each ("they can again include article)
(C) since all of them were ( "all" will include all the noun including article)
(D) each of which was (again ambiguity)
(E) because all of the men were (leaves no confusion in noun reference)

(A) since each of them were
(B) since they were each
(C) since all of them were
(D) each of which was
(E) because all of the men were

first, the predicate of the dependent clause is plural therefore A and D is out. "each of them were" does not have subject-verb agreement. C and E are wrong because "all" is ambiguous. it could mean one or more than one: the guys or the Federalist Papers or the articles. IMO B since the two guys are the only logical antecedents for "they"
