radius of small circle => 2* pi *r =4*pi
=> r = 2

radius of big circle => 2*pi*R = 6*pi
=> R =3


distance = r+R = 5 (A)

Answer = A. 5

Distance between X & Y is sum of radius of Circle X & Circle Y

\(= \frac{6\pi}{2\pi} + \frac{4\pi}{2\pi}= 3\pi + 2\pi = 5\)

OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

(A) This question is essentially just asking for the sum of the two radii, since the wheels are touching.

Since circumference = 2πr, radius = circumference/2π.

Thus, the smaller wheel has a radius of 4π/2π = 2 and the larger wheel has a radius of 6π/2π = 3.

The distance between x and y is 2 + 3 = 5.

The correct answer is choice (A).
