The figure above shows the shape of a brick patio. If arc AB is a semicircle and ABCD is a square, what is the perimeter of the patio?

The perimeter of the patio equals to the length of the semicircle plus the sum of the three sides of the square.

(1) The radius of the semicircle described by arc AB is 4. We can calculate the length of the semicircle. The side of the square is twice the radius. Sufficient.

(2) The perimeter of the square ABCD is 32 --> the side is 32/4=8. The radius is 8/2=4. Sufficient.

In order to find the perimeter of the patio we need EITHER the radius of the semicircle OR side of the square. Either of these values will give the perimeter.
