A. which is built on the North American strait connecting San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean and - which is not parallel with called
B. built on the North American strait connecting San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean and which is - built is not parallel with which is called
C. built on the North American strait that connects San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean is
- is called????

Out of D and E

built on the North American strait connecting San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean over built on the North American strait that connects San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean and

Hence D.

Sorry, but why is E wrong? Can someone explain why 'connecting' is a better choice here over 'connects?'

Can an expert please comment on why option D is preferred to option E.
I would like to know how to eliminate option E.

I believe both "connecting" and "called" should logically point to the "Golden Gate Bridge".
The pronoun "that" in option E points to the "strait" instead of the "Golden Gate Bridge".

Hope this explanation was helpful.

sir i have a doubt that connecting is a modifier according to me and without comma so it must modify preceding noun so why option "d" is correct and why not option "e" because i saw some questions where that doesn't modify just preceding noun but little bit far noun please explain?
thanks

hi rishabhmishra,

It is a poor question if written correctly....
bridge connects two pieces of land and strait connects two areas of water bodies.
But here you are connecting a piece of land, San francisco, with a water bodt, the pacific ocean.
what on earth does it mean..

so pacific ocean is surely there and San Francisco is San Francisco Bay
Now what is best to connect these two - a strait
so CONNECTING is modifier correctly used so a better choice..
But there is not much wrong with THAT too..

so all in all a doubtful Q
