(A) The Goodyear blimp will provide aerial footage of the car race
(B) The Goodyear blimp has provided aerial footage of the car race
(C) The Goodyear blimp will have been providing aerial footage of the car race
(D) The Goodyear blimp will have provided aerial footage of the car race
(E) The Goodyear blimp will be providing aerial footage of the car race

This can be a tricky question, and in order to understand this question well, we need to understand different "verb tenses"

In this case, we have a longer action "provide footage of car race" and we also have a time interruption in the form of "for as long as" making it as a condition.

As per the definition of future continuous tense: - "Use the Future Continuous to indicate that a longer action in the future will be interrupted by a shorter action in the future. Remember this can be a real interruption or just an interruption in time."

Hence, the structure should be: "will" + "present participle"

will + be providing - in our case

Hence, option E is the correct answer.

Perfect explanation by ydmuley. Almost all of the answer choices could be correct grammatically (C is the only one wrong right away), but you need to match it to the "for as long..." later on in the sentence.

This leaves only option e.

Hi darn ,

Do you have any specific questions?

Let me decode the whole sentence for you.

The Goodyear blimp will provide aerial footage of the car race, which occurs just fifteen miles from its airbase in Ohio, for as long as the race is sponsored by the tire company.

Understand the meaning of the sentence first. It says Goodyear Blimp will provide some footage only when we have some sponsored ship. We need to link the two actions: the action of sponsorship and providing footage. This can be done by using continuous tense. I mean we need to show that as long as the 2nd action is happening, the first will happen.

For example:

I will be studying for GMAT as long as I am awake. It means the moment I go to sleep, I would stop studying.

Quote:
(A) The Goodyear blimp will provide aerial footage of the car race

This sentence is not maintaining the meaning we want. You can very well pick this choice if 1) you don't read the full sentence. 2) You don't understand what does for as long as mean. If you are rushing, you can very well select this option. But BEWARE.

Quote:
(B) The Goodyear blimp has provided aerial footage of the car race

Has provided? Why are we changing the tense? We are just stating a fact and saying as long as one is working, the other will work. Hence, incorrect.

Quote:
(C)The Goodyear blimp will have been providing aerial footage of the car race

Will have been providing means they are actually not providing the footage. This opens the case of Hypothetical. Wrong.

Quote:
(D)The Goodyear blimp will have provided aerial footage of the car race

Same error as C. Hypothetical.

Quote:
(E) The Goodyear blimp will be providing aerial footage of the car race

Okay, now it says they will be providing something as long as the other work is going on. Hence, giving the correct meaning.

Thanks for this
I picked A, so I wanted to know why E is the right answer and you explained it beautifully. Much appreciated!
