To minimize one quantity maximize other.

160*2.5 (max possible amount of food a guest could consume) = 400 pounds, so there must be more than 160 guests, next integer is 161.

Answer: B.

Actually, the answer is 161 guests.

161*2.5 =402.5 pounds total, hence we can still get to 401 pounds if the last guest ate 2.5-1.5=1 pound.

So solution is 160*2.5 + 1*1 ---------> 161 guests

We need to maximize the amount of food consumed by each guest; this will minimize the number of guests. Since 2.5 x 160 = 400, we see that 160 guests could have consumed a maximum of 2.5 pounds of food each; hence, we need one more guest to consume the remaining1 pound. Thus, the minimum number of guests is 161.

Answer: B
