E.

Argument is saying that smokers can increase lung function by eating more foods that are rich in vitamins. However, this wont help if E is true . E says that its the smoking itself that causes the helpful vitamins from entering the smoker's bloodstream.

So, if a smoker kept smoking but changed their diet, it wouldnt help, because the vitamins they ingest are prevent from entering the bloodstream due to the fact that the individual is still smoking

Re: The higher the level of certain vitamins and minerals in the [#permalink]
Conclusion: The conclusion of the argument: One way to improve the lung function of the smokers is to increase their intake of foods that are rich in these helpful vitamins and minerals.

A. Smokers are less likely than nonsmokers to have diets that are rich in vitamins and minerals - [The comparison between smokers and nonsmokers dietary habits out of scope of the argument. – Eliminate it]

B. The lung function of smokers whose diets are rich in those vitamins and minerals is generally better than that of nonsmokers with comparable diets - [The comparison between smokers and nonsmokers lung functionality is out of scope of the argument. – Eliminate it]

C. People whose diets are deficient in those vitamins and minerals do not typically have other health problems in addition to diminished lung function [Out of scope - Eliminate it]

D. Stopping smoking will not typically improve lung function more than any diet changes can [Close – but has nothing to do with the conclusion – Eliminate it]

E. Smoking does not introduce into the body chemicals that prevent the helpful vitamins and minerals from entering the bloodstream. [Correct one – Lets apply negation technique – that is, stopping introduce into the body chemicals that prevent the helpful vitamins and minerals from entering the bloodstream. This makes the conclusion invalid.]

There is a close call between option A and E.
I will go with Option E as it negates the conclusion completely.
