The inside of a rectangular carton is 48 cm long,32cm wide,15cm high.The carton is filled to capacity with k identical cylindrical cans of fruit that stand upright in rows and columns,as indicated in the figure above.If the Cans are 15cm high what is the Value of k?
1>Each of the cans has a radius of 4cm.
2>Six of the cans fit exactly along the length of the carton.

both conditions give the diameter of the can which is good enough to calculate the number of cans.

Stmt-2 If 6 cans fit the length then 6*diameter=length of the carton
6D=48 D=>8

thus 4 cans (32/8) across the width and 6 cans across the length.

D is the ans
