(1) The total number of women and children in the room is 12.
(2) There are fewer than 4 men in the room.

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

I picked C

My approach:

Info 1 insuff
Info 2 insuff
1 & 2 together
Men = Total - 12
Men<4
Since, W:M:C=5:2:7
there has to 2 men so 14 people

The ratio of the number of women to the number of men to the number of children in a room is 5:2:7, respectively. What is the total number of people in the room?

from stem we know that the number of people in the room has to be 14*n.

statement I

If the number of women and children is 12, than we have 5 women and 7 childrens meaning two men.

statement II

since we have less than 4 men in the room, the number of men can be 1,2,3

only when the number of men is 2 ---> we will get integers for the women and childrens.

lets say men = 3 than women = 3/2*7 = 21/2

the answer is (D)

I guess it is D, first i picked A. but here is the view

1. 7x+5x=12
x=1
total 14 so suff

2. it says number of men is few than 4, at the moment the ratio is 5:2:7,
it cannot be 1 and 3 otherwise number of W and C will have to be a fraction. so num of men 2 and total 14. thus suff.
