because and reason are redundant.
"reason being" is wrong.
Because X, so Y is wrong structure.
The reason X was Y is also wrong structure.

E is correct one.
If I am wrong please explain why.

I would go for E. No redundancies + correct use of would instead of will in "would empty the poorhouses[...]"

KAPLAN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

E.

It’s fine to skip a few long, heavily-underlined sen- tences if you get bogged down on them. Sentences like this one can be intimidating, but they don’t have to be if you can spot the error quickly. Phrases like “the reason . . .was because” are too wordy to be cor- rect on the GMAT. Practice so you can quickly recog- nize and reject them. (D) would be OK if “so” were eliminated. As it is, stick with the most economical and logical phrase:“Willard . . .founded the . . . Union because . . .”

Here's my line of thought that got me the right answer choice (E).

First split: B, C and D can be discounted for previously mentioned reasons by other posters. B and D have clear redundancy traps. Some superfluous. C doesn't is structurally illogical.

Second split: We are left with A or E. The split here is between using the world will/would. I was surprised to not find an explanation about this by other posters. But this boils down to the a fundamental question regarding tense sequence:

'Will empty' is a simple future tense. But the sentence clearly refers to an action completed in the past. So how do refer to 'will empty' if we have to use a past tense?

It will provide insights becomes that it would provide insights - the simple future tense becomes the conditional tense. The helping verb would expresses the future from the pasts point of view.

Now if we apply this to the sentence: will empty the ... should become would empty..

Hence we can eliminate answer choice A for wrongfully applying the simple future tense and we are left with answer choice E.
