The recent proliferation of newpaper articles in major publications that have been exposed as fabrications serves to bolster the contention that publishers are more interested in selling copy than in printing the truth. Even minor publications have staffs to check such obvious fraud.

The above argument assumes that

(A) newspaper stories of dubious authenticity are a new phenomenon.
(B) minor publications do a better job of fact-checking that do major publications.
(C) everything a newspaper prints must be factually verifiable.
(D) only recently have newspapers admintted to publishing erroneous stories.
(E) publishers are ultimately responsible for what is printed in their newspapers.

The conclusion is " publishers are more interested in selling copy than in printing the truth".

None of A, B, C and D supports the conclusion. So, E is the best. The Publishers are responsible for all the fabrications as they intend to make that and cannot argue that they do it by typing mistake or so.

I think this is tricky one.
I'd say E.
A and D is definately out.....out of scope.
C seems to be too strong
So it's between B and E.

Premise
1) Recent proliferation of newspaper articles in major publications are fabricated
2) Even minor publications have staffs to check such obvious fraud

Conclusion:
3) Major publications are more interested in selling copy than in printing truth

A - not relevant
D - not relevant
E - not relevant

Between B and C, the best choice is C. It ties in with the two premsises given to us. If major publishers do not factually verify the information, then they must be uninterested in the truth.

B merely says minordo a better job fact-checking, however knowing this won't allow us to make the conclusion that the major publications are more interested in sales figure.

C it is.
