The relationship between quantities m and n is expressed by the equation 11m = 5(n - 42). If the difference between the two chosen values of n is 30, what is the difference in the corresponding values of m?

A. 30/11
B. 42/11
C. 60/11
D. 150/11

Another Simple way

11m=5(n-42)

Assume n = 42 to make one side equal to 0
then 11m=0
and m = 0

Repeat it by assuming n as 42+30 i.e 72
11m- 5(72-42)
11m=150
m=150/11

diff = 150/11 - 0 = 150/11

say the sets of values are m1,n1 and m2,n2

11m1 = 5(n1-42)
11m2 = 5(n2-42)

Subtracting

11(m1-m2)=5(n1-n2)

So m1-m2 = (5*30)/11

OR if you are familiar with differential calculus, you can get from the equation straight away by differentiating that :

\(11 dm = 5 dn\)
and hence m = 150/11

Did in the same way

Placing value of n = 42 makes the resultant zero

So, no need of subtraction after placing n = 72; results are direct :)

Assume the values to be M1, M2 and N1, N2

11M1 = 5(N1-42) - (i)
11M2 = 5(N2-42) - (ii)

Subtracting (ii) from (i)

11(M1-M2)=5(N1-N2) - 42 + 42

Putting the value of N1 - N2 = 30
Hence, M1-M2 = (5*30)/11 = 150/11
