D?
It should be "has explored several alternatives" and not "explored several alternatives" because the affect of this activity continues in the present...
What is the OA?

I would say it´s D. Basically because of parallelism in the 3 structures

Good Question....+1

The sentence says that Restucturing company explored several alternatives; alternatives which included complete and partial liquidation of assets, but has not found any feasible solution....

Sentence A: Looks okay as the exploring took place before and is in past tense so lets hold it for a moment.

Sentence B : Had explored (action of of exploring happened earlier than another action in past, but there is none) and hence can be ruled out

Sentence C : Explored (verb 1) and did not found (verb 2) are not connected properly by FANBOYS so can be ruled out

D. Use of Has Explored (Present perfect) means the action is still continuing and Has not found means so far (in the most recent past) no solution has been found.... So D can be put on hold

E. Two verbs not connected by proper conjunction (Same as C)

The meaning of the sentence somehow conveys that efforts are still on and hence will chose D over A

Ans D

What is the source and OA?????

A is incorrect because of a verb tense issue, which usually indicates a 'meaning' issue. The sentence is basically trying to say that the agency explored several alternatives but did not find a solution--the question is how did it happen? There are essentially two ways to describe it:

(1) both verbs can be in the past (explored...did not find) ; this means that both actions are fully completed--end of story.

(2) both verbs can be in the present perfect (has explored...has not found) ; this means that the agency, at some time in the past, explored several of perhaps many alternatives and did not find a solution, BUT, the agency is still exploring additional alternatives and could still find a solution. To convey this idea, that the agency is still in the process of exploring options and finding a solution, the present perfect is required for the "continued effect" it imparts on these actions--they began in the past and continue to the present moment because they are not yet completed.

Therefore D, which uses the second construction, is correct.

only D fits...
we need present perfect for both of the verbs
has explored - an action that happened in the past, but whose effects are felt in present
same thing with has not found
usage of but as a non-conjunction makes you think of parallelism.

A/B/C are out right away
E has did not found - which is not only incorrect because of the wrong tense, but also because it uses DID + FOUND - incorrect usage of past simple.

Hi,

Have a doubt regarding the correct answer for each question. Along with every question, there is a link provided which says [Reveal]Spoiler : OA. Does this link refer to the correct answer? Because in quite a few posts I encountered that the answers discussed and the answer in link were not in sync. As they say, Preparing in a wrong manner is worse than not preparing, so, I just wanna be sure as to which is the correct answer actually. Please throw some light on this concern.

Thanks in Advance.

The OA is in general supposed to be the "Official Answer" as obtained from the source of the question. Although in most cases the OA is indeed the correct answer, it may so happen that for unofficial questions the OA is wrong, either because of human error in selecting the right option while posting the question, or because of an error by the question-writer himslf / herself. You are welcome to post your query or disagreement (in "request expert reply" window), if you do not agree with the OA or the discussions on the thread.
