Re: The scores obtained by Ben and Molly in three tests is shown in the ta [#permalink]
x+y=100......(1)
y+z=100.......(2)
z+x=100.......(3)

Add (1), (2) and (3)

x+y+y+z+z+x = 300

2(x+y+z)= 300

x+y+z= 150.....(4)

Put x+y=100 in equation (4), we get z=50

Put y+z=100 in equation (4), we get x=50

Put z+x=100 in equation (4), we get y=50

The scores obtained by Ben and Molly in three tests is shown in the table below.

Ben Molly
Test-1 x y
Test-2 y z
Test-3 z x

Is x = y = z?

(1) Sum of the scores obtained by Ben and Molly in each of the tests equals 100.

(2) x = z

1. x + y = y + z = x + z = 100
This is only possible when x = y = z = 50 (Sufficient)

2. x = z
Since we have no information about y, we cannot say for sure that x = y = z (Insufficient) (Option A)

Hi, why is it only possile when x=y=z=50
they can take decimal value too right? like one can get a score of say 27.5?
